Our ‘Why’

While I was working in a software job in one of Estonia’s leading companies, I decided to get serious about a personal project that was very close to my heart. In the midst of making the decision, I started to wonder what my company’s values would be.

I spoke to a bunch of marketing professionals. I told them how I wanted to work on this asynchronous video interviewing product. How I felt that résumé and cover letter were not a good enough representation of a candidate. And how one’s passion is as important as one's credentials (probably more so).

I wanted to craft a set of values, even before a line of code was written. Something that wouldn’t necessarily be set in stone, but would definitely be unchangeable in what it stands for. I received many usual suggestions that were variations of “Customer obsession”, “Innovation”, “Integrity” and the like.

Somehow, they all seemed shallow.

I kept pondering on how Vesume can help candidates truly express themselves. And how that would mean that they’d get the job that they might have missed, because they probably did not seem like a good fit initially. It would help them ‘succeed’. And the same applies for the hiring managers. Picture this - stumbling upon a candidate who turns out to be exceptionally talented, even though they didn't appear so at first!

And this became our first value - “We help people succeed!”.

Vesume is not about questions flashing on a screen, candidates answering them, and recruiters evaluating them! It is about placing ‘who’ someone is, over ‘what’ is on their résumé! It’s about helping recruiters find people who the employees will love working with. It’s about the human connection and not human convention.

That’s why Vesume exists! That’s our purpose. :)
